But then, it requires a lot of toil to have the garden you dream of! There is so much to think about, so much to plan and so much to do that people leave their pursuits of a classy little garden in the middle!
Thankfully, all those who might not be able to dedicate the resource of time towards the establishment of a garden floor can do so by opting for turfs. Now how to lay turf you ask; this article provides you the answers.
Turfs provide quick and easy alternatives to conventional grass covered gardens and all the efforts that go into it. Keeping a few vital tips in mind while laying turf is bound to make the task all the more easier and fruitful.
To begin with, spending some time in choosing the perfect weather for laying the turf could serve you well. Although you can go about the exercise any time of the year, it would still be great if you could start it off somewhere around the spring or autumn seasons. Winters could just be a little severe on the turf, and summers could be a little too demanding on the turf. You might as well make a note of the fact that a turf needs care and attention just as a naturally laid grass bed does.
You can start off well by doing some numbers and finding out the amount of turf you’d need. You can find out the length and breadth of the land patch, and then multiply the figures to get the area of turf required. Of course, you can consider adding some error amount to both the dimensions so that there is leeway for cutting and shaping turf.
The next step is to prepare the ground where the turf will be laid. You would need to ensure that the ground is free of any stones and rocky deposits apart from weed roots, etc.
Any lumps and other major irregularities in the smoothness of the ground will also have to be leveled off. Debris free oil bed lets the turf root easily, so you stand to gain a lot from having a layer of 4 to 6 inches of top quality top soil.
Before you lay the turf, you should water the turned over and rakes soil bed with water for a couple of days as this makes the soil settle down and also enables the turf roots to get a good grasp.
When you get the ordered turf, do not waste much time in laying it down as it can start dying off if not quickly spread out. Then, you have to mark out the borders of the area that needs to be covered with turf with a straight edge or string line.
When the marking is done, you should lay the turf on at least a couple of edges and then work your way from the corner and across the uncovered area. Use one roll at a time and ensure that the subsequent turf pieces press firmly against others.

After completing the first row, place the wooden plank on the turf and proceed over to the next part.
Once the entire land patch is covered with turf, use a long bladed knife or hand saw to scrape off the turf around the edge. Now, lay back and see if the turf has been fully laid and there are no obvious depressions and bulges.
Then, get some fine soil and sprinkle it all along the joints. Follow it up with a descent watering session. You’d need to be regular with watering the newly laid turf, at least until the time it is visibly settled.
