You probably love eating pumpkin, but you are always asking yourself what to do with pumpkin seeds. Well, don’t throw them away, they are tasteful and a good source of fiber. Take a minute and find out how to prepare pumpkin seeds by either toasting or roasting them in the oven.
First you need to wash the pumpkin seeds with cold water and clean them of the pulp and strings. It’s the best if you do it right after removing them from the pumpkin, before the pulp has dried. Dry them with a paper towel. After you have done this, you can choose one of the following easy to make recipes to prepare pumpkin seeds.
Put the pumpkin seeds on a baking sheet in one layer, then coat with non-stick cooking spray. Put a little salt over them, heat the oven at 250 degrees and bake them for about 25 minutes.
Put them in warm salty water for the night, and then cook them in the morning.
Soak them in salt water for a while, and then put them in the oven until they are completely dry. Prepared like this, pumpkin seeds have a nutty flavor.
Put them on a baking sheet, sprinkle with a little salt (if you can find olive oil-garlic salt, it goes great with pumpkin seeds), and then bake them at 250 degrees for about 15 minutes, stirring once.
You can also add your favorite seasoning instead of salt (sweet and savory spices go especially well with pumpkin seeds), and then put them into the oven on low heat. Just don’t forget to shake the pan from time to time to move them around.
You don’t have to bake them in the oven. Instead, you can put them in a hot pan for 5 to 10 minutes to dry and fry a little, just be careful that they don’t burn. After you have removed the pan from heat, sprinkle them with some tamari or soy sauce, or any other sauce that you like, and eat while they’re still warm.
Soak them in salt water for two days, rinse them, and then put them in the oven on 300 degrees for about 4 hours, stirring them every 30 minutes. They are done when they become golden brown and crispy.
If you can find Worcestershire Sauce, soak the seeds in it for about an hour, spread them on a baking pan, cover them with some melted butter and a little salt. Heat the oven at 250 degrees C and bake them for about 45 minutes, stirring every ten minutes or so. They are done when they are golden or dark brown.
For this recipe you need 1 1/2 cups of fresh whole pumpkin seeds, 2 teaspoons of melted butter, and a pinch of salt. Mix the seeds with the melted butter and salt. Put them in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 150 degrees C for about 45 minutes, or until they become golden brown. Make sure you occasionally stir them.
So there you have it. Now you know how to prepare pumpkin seeds. The next time you have pumpkin on your menu, don’t forget to make something out of the seeds. Whichever recipe you try, I am sure you and your family will love it.
